Who is the CIG?
Central Indiana Grotto is one of the oldest grottos in the nation. Known nationally for hosting the longest running cave festival in the country, Cave Capers. While CIG is based in Indiana it's members are known for caving around the world; from the reaches of TAG to the mountains in Asia. The grotto consists of members ranging from weekend warriors to project cavers exploring some of the most exciting caves in the country. We welcome seasoned cavers and beginners alike.
The CIG is a branch of the National Speleological Society (NSS) which ties the grotto in with caving groups all over the United States.
CIG Monthly Meetings
On the first Wednesday of each month, the Central Indiana Grotto gets together for our monthly meeting at the Indiana War Memorial, downtown. The meeting lasts from 7:30 PM to approximately 9:30 PM.
Our meetings usually consist of a business meeting, talk about caves and trips, a brief break, and then some form of cave related program. Our programs vary from guest speakers to slide programs on caves and caving.
Parking is located on the streets around the Memorial building. Walk up the steps and enter the World War Memorial on the North side of the building (Michigan Street Side). Many times the lights are turned off in the entryway and the door may be locked, if you are waiting more than a minute or two please text the number on the door for entry and we will come open the door. When you go into the entrance hall go through the second set of doors, past the security desk and the meeting room is to the right. We are usually in Shoup Hall.
